Contemporary swift development and adoption of the Earth observation means and GIS-technologies require competent specialists training. Several dozen institutes of higher education in Russia and foreign countries have been already supplied with space data ground receiving and processing stations designed by RDC “SCANEX”. Scientific and educational space monitoring centers based on the receiving stations were developed. The centers provide training and retraining of specialists in possession of modern knowledge in the field of Earth observation and geoinformation systems and technologies training in order to support managerial decision making based on near real-time satellite imaging.

A number of projects with the use of Earth remote sensing data was implemented at the Perm State University: space monitoring of farming lands and studies of agricultural crops vegetation, space monitoring of spring flood development and determination of flooded zones. The author suggests various options for using space images in the Informatics course. The training course “Satellite Images of the Earth” is an elective course for students of the 10th and 11th grades. In development of the elective training course the authors pursued the goal of studying the Earth remote sensing data available in school. The collected and arranged materials cover various formats of data representation, means of their acquisition and volume of information. The training course is designed for 34 training hours.

One of the critical objectives nowadays is to develop an electronic training tutorial (manual) containing explanations and visual aids (images from space, ground photographs, pictures and diagrams) of the major concepts of physical geography. This effort will promote schoolchildren’s use of remote sensing data for exploring their world.
